Meet Dr. Davis
Dr. Anthony J. Davis, the 13th President of Livingstone College, is the first alumnus in more than 50 years to lead the institution he once called home as a student. A foster care survivor, veteran, and ordained Elder, his life has been defined by resilience, faith, and service to others. Today, he is facing End Stage Renal Failure and is in urgent need of a kidney transplant. Just as he has poured into countless students and families, now he needs the community to pour into him. “Be My Match” is not just a campaign to find a donor for Dr. Davis, it is a call to give hope to a leader who has given hope to so many. Will you answer the call?

Journey
Dr. Anthony J. Davis’s story is one of resilience, service, and vision. A foster care survivor who emancipated himself at 17, Dr. Davis went on to serve in the United States Air Force before pursuing higher education. He graduated magna cum laude from Livingstone College in 2001, returning decades later as its 13th President—the first alumnus in over 50 years to hold the role. Before becoming President in October 2022, Dr. Davis served as Livingstone’s Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, where he supervised the college’s entire fundraising enterprise and managed day-to-day operations. In that role, he provided strategic oversight across campus to promote collaboration, economic growth, revenue generation, and sustainability. His nearly three decades of leadership in philanthropy and higher education have helped raise more than $500 million in gifts and grants nationwide. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Davis is an ordained Elder in the A.M.E. Zion Church who continues to lead with a servant’s heart, guided by the belief that “If service is beneath you, then leadership should be beyond you.”
Family
Behind Dr. Anthony J. Davis’s extraordinary leadership is the unwavering support of his family. He is married to Dr. Jacqueline S. Davis, a dedicated pediatric nurse practitioner who holds a doctorate in nursing practice. Together, they are the proud parents of three children: Brandon, Montrell, and Maya. The Davis family is grounded in faith, service, and love for community. Just as Dr. Davis leads with compassion and vision at Livingstone College, he and his family embody those same values at home, serving as a source of strength and inspiration for all who know them.

Impact
Since becoming President in 2022, Dr. Anthony J. Davis has made a profound impact on Livingstone College through his vision, fundraising success, and commitment to students. Under his leadership, the college has secured more than $56 million in philanthropic support, including historic gifts such as a $10 million contribution in 2025 to enhance campus facilities as part of the bold Miracle on Monroe Street campaign. Enrollment has strengthened, with 269 first-time, first-year students entering in Fall 2023, reflecting renewed energy in recruitment. Dr. Davis also launched the HOPE Emancipation Project, a pioneering program that provides scholarships, housing, and wraparound support for youth aging out of foster care. With additional grants, including a $200,000 award from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Livingstone is expanding access and opportunity for vulnerable students while also advancing STEM initiatives and student services. Dr. Davis’s ability to combine strategic vision with servant leadership continues to transform Livingstone College and position it for long-term growth and sustainability.
Urgency
Every nine minutes, someone in the United States is added to the national transplant waiting list, and more than 100,000 people are currently waiting for a life-saving organ. Of those, nearly 90,000 are waiting for a kidney. The need is urgent, and time matters. For Dr. Davis, the challenge is clear: each day without a donor means lost opportunities for healing and renewed strength—not just for him and his family, but for the students and community he serves. This is more than a medical necessity; it is a chance to continue the journey of a servant leader whose life has been dedicated to service, education, and transformation. Now, we invite you to answer the call: Be My Match.

Living kidney donation is when a healthy person donates one of their two kidneys while they are alive. Getting a kidney from a living donor has lots of benefits for the person who needs a transplant, called the recipient. If you are interested in donating a kidney, you will work with a transplant center at a hospital. The transplant center will make sure you are healthy enough to donate, do the surgery, and help you recover.
